Will be playing this next week after getting through the Blops 6 beta this weekend. Also need to do all the extra stuff that was added to the playroom before starting. People can call me crazy, I don’t care, Astro’s Playroom is still one of my top 5 favorite games on PS5 and I had very high expectations for this. Have to play it to find out for sure but I’m very encouraged by these reviews as it’s grading ahead of even some of Nintendo’s best. Would not be surprised of this gets the highest overall rating for a game this year.

Astro’s adventure takes him to various galaxies full of planets to explore as he tracks down his scattered crew. This part of our Astro Bot guide goes over each and every level in the game, highlighting where to find all collectibles and more. Every level brings something new, and the controls feel perfect. The bright graphics and little PlayStation references make it even better. Overall, it’s a super enjoyable game and definitely worth playing. In its never-ending chase for maturity and realism, the video game industry is leaving kids behind.

Some are placed right in front of you, but most require the aforementioned curiosity to pull you off the beaten path in search of the game’s bountiful secrets. One of the best mechanics–which I very much hope becomes standard in the genre moving forward–is a robot bird companion who can join you in any level you decide to replay. The bird pings for collectibles and leads you right to the remaining bots, secret Void levels, and puzzle pieces you’ve not yet found. This makes playing the game to 100% completion a joy and never a grind. I’ve never cared about PlayStation Trophies before, but I expect to unlock them all in Astro Bot, if only incidentally because I want to see and do everything this game offers. Astro Bot is a 3D adventure platformer that features the PlayStation mascot, Astro, as he travels to different worlds in search of his lost crew members and to repair the PS5 mothership.

Kenneth C.M. Young returns as the composer and brings the same energy he brought to Astro’s Playroom. From the moment that the first level begins, players will hear that this music has electric energy to it. In contrast, think about all the enemies featured in the Super Mario series. There’s not a single name that comes to mind with the Astro Bot minions. It’s a shame, because Team Asobi brilliantly showed players how creative they are. If they actively described the enemies and dedicated a bit more time to making them iconic, they would have left a more significant impression on the gamers.

It presents a picture of the past where PlayStation spoke to a more vibrant audience across different ages and tastes. Astro Bot confidently shows us that we don’t need to abandon that thinking just because tech has changed and the industry has grown. There’s still room for an expertly designed collect-a-thon platformer that’s filled with love and wonder.

As the player progresses, they’ll unlock new pathways and cosmetics not just for Astro but for the PS-themed Bots. The ever-growing install base of the PS5 has allowed many players around the world to enjoy Astro’s Playroom. Filled with references to hardware throughout PlayStation’s history and boasting an abundance of cameo appearances from popular characters, Astro’s Playroom celebrated PlayStation’s history in a unique way. This made Astro not just the new kid on the block, but established the bot as a character integral to the PlayStation brand. Today, PlayStation’s cinematic blockbuster titles still mostly cater to a mature audience, but Team Asobi is taking a different approach. The studio’s roster of delightful robots and the inventive gameplay with which they and players interact have been compared with the Nintendo way.

The Iron Suit is an impenetrable set of armor that will weigh players down with power. Its main functionality is to transform players into a tiny ball which is impervious to attacks be it rolling through spikes or getting pelted with lava. Players can even shove themselves in vacuums to clog up enemies or mini volcanoes to blast elsewhere in a stage. There are hero stages in Astro Bot based on big properties like God of War and Uncharted. In the God of War stage, Astro Bot can use Kratos’ axe, for example, which is great, but the hero examples go so far beyond power-ups into their own territory. So, let’s go through the main, animal-based power-ups that give Astro Bot a ton of abilities in throughout the adventure.

With tilt assist on, though, players should have very little trouble clearing Rising Heat quickly, which bodes well for those hoping to unlock the stage’s two Cameo Bots. Rising Heat requires players to use the Monkey, which is arguably one of the most annoying power-ups in Astro Bot. They’ll also be able to use the left analog stick to control Astro while he’s in the air after swinging from a pole, which can make life a lot easier. Thankfully, there are one or two corners to be cut here, allowing players to shave plenty of time off of their personal bests. With the following Rising Heat walkthrough, Astro Bot players can learn how to finish the stage in 75 seconds or less. It’s possible to go even faster, but those just looking to rescue the two Cameo Bots needn’t worry too much about that.

In Team ASOBI’s first true opportunity at creating an AAA game, it is safe to say, they knocked it out of the park. Once you’ve hit every piece of the edge, the disco ball will appear. Take the secret exit to unlock the Danger Dojo level in the Lost Galaxy. Take out the enemy and use the secret exit to unlock the Furnace Fever level.

The addition of the new levels brings Astro Bot’s total level count to over 90. Here are Metacritic’s 10 lowest-scoring video games released in 2025. As I collected them, I found myself getting surprisingly emotional as deep-cut games I grew up with got their lovingly crafted due. Every time I found an old friend, I was transported back to that kid in the backroom of my parent’s house playing PS1. The unbridled joy I felt when firing up a game I’d never seen before came flooding back to me.

The game currently holds a 4.89 out of 5 stars with over 31,000 ratings on the PSN Store. Octo-Balloon is another power-up that is flight-based although the functionality is quite different. Players can inflate themselves to float upward, sort of like the Power Balloon power-up in Super Mario World. Like that game, players can extend their time in the air with certain recharge points. Finally, players can defeat certain enemies by plugging their Octo-Balloon pipe into their mouths and blowing them up instead. HM88 ’s a slower-moving power-up but the Octo-Balloon is part of some engaging levels like the first one called Sky Garden in Astro Bot.

The game has a total of 300 bots to collect and find throughout the game. For more gameplay details, read everything we know about Astro Bot’s gameplay and story. Entire levels are built around Astro Bot’s power-ups, but most aren’t just one-off gimmicks.

Even Wreckfest we can’t even have Flatout style (predecessor) flinging the driver target practice. I can go to TOCA 3/V8 SUpercars 3 or DTM 3 or whatever for PS2 and DS/PSP/PS2-Xbox-PC are all different. Even a project by Behaviour the Dead by Daylight devs (me I know fro Scaler/Wet) had a car in some sci-fi worlds.

It also provided a look back at previous PlayStation releases, including beloved characters and hardware of varying popularity. Team Asobi’s success with creating a game to showcase new PlayStation technology led to its next game, The Playroom VR. Similar to its predecessor, The Playroom VR was a free launch game for the PlayStation VR that functioned as a showcase for Sony’s venture into the world of virtual reality. While the team’s focus was on creating a collection of short multiplayer experiences, there was one exception. Each of the 5 Main Nebulas contains hidden 1 Puzzle Piece on the Space Map. You need to fly around the Nebula with your space ship until a UFO appears that holds the puzzle pieces, simply fly into it to collect it.
